Generate Hysopt model

Hysopt BIM Syncer can create a P&ID model (calculation model) from a Revit model. It uses a smart algorithm that first identifies the end units (heat emitters) in your system, such as radiators, fan coils, or floor heating. Then, it analyses how the system is connected with components and pipes, such as pumps, valves, or fittings. The algorithm stops when it reaches a production unit, such as a boiler, chiller, or heat pump. This way, Hysopt BIM Syncer can generate a complete and accurate P&ID model of your system.

To identify if a Revit component is an end unit, Hysopt BIM Syncer uses the classification of a Revit component. If it is not possible to identify if a Revit component is an end unit, than you should help the algorithm with adding assistance parameters.

Piping system

In the Hysopt BIM Syncer we focus on heating and cooling applications while Revit piping systems are used for serveral other applications eg. domestic cold and hot water, fire protection, sanitary. Heating and cooling applications in Revit use the same piping system classification hydronic supply and hydronic return. Hysopt BIM Sycner cannot differ heating or cooling system based on piping system classifications in Revit. For this reason an assistance parameter is added to inform the Hysopt BIM Syncer if a hydronic system is a heating or cooling system. At default all hydronic systems will be generated as heating systems.

Basecircuit placeholders

The generated Hysopt model is created with “Base Circuit placeholders”. (What are base circuits?)
A placeholder is a useful tool when we want to generate a Hysopt model in the Hysopt BIM Syncer without knowing the classification of the component or without fully drawing the components (eg. floor heating). A placeholder allows us to assign a generic type to the base circuit, such as a production, component, pump, regime changing and end units without specifying its type (eg. component → valve → on/off valve). This way, we can still model the P&ID of the system, even if we do not have a complete classification of the component. A placeholder can be replaced later by a specific component if needed.

Production placeholder

Production placeholders are used for replacing a production unit, such as a boiler, chiller, or heat pump

Component placeholder

Component placeholders are used for replacing components, such as three-way valves, strainers, or on/off valves

Pump placeholder

Pump placeholders are used for replacing pumps. If the classification of the Revit component of the Pump is not present. The Revit component will be generated as a component placeholder.

Regime changing placeholder

Regime changing placeholders are used at locations in the system where components or connections will affect the temperature regime in the system.

Component

Regime changing component placeholders are used for components, such as heat exchangers, heat interface units, low loss headers

Distribution unit

Regime changing distribution unit placeholders are used for bypasses and three-valve configurations. There is a difference in types:

Type 1 distribution unit with component on bypass

Type 2 distribution unit without component on bypass

Type 1 Type 2

End unit placeholder

End unit placeholders are used for replacing end units, such as radiators, floor heating, or fan coil units

Replacing placeholders

For most of the calculations and validations supported by the Hysopt BIM Syncer we do not necessarily need to replace the placeholders

Except for following exceptions :

Hysopt model generation settings

In settings section, Hysopt model generation settings allow you to customise how the generated model looks in the Hysopt software. You can change the layout of the model. These settings do not affect the performance or the results of the model, only its appearance.

Messages

Start Hysopt model generation

When you start an Hysopt model generation, the Hysopt BIM syncer will extract all relevant BIM elements for calculating and validating a hydronic system out of Revit. If all Revit elements are extracted, processing of the Hysopt model on our Hysopt servers is done. If these actions are executed the generation of your Hysopt model is done. You will be informed by a popup message if the generation was (un)successful.

Unsuccessful Hysopt model generation

An unsuccessful Hysopt model generation is indicated with an orange popup message. The popup message has two buttons show details and link & map. You can close the popup message by clicking on it or it will automatically close after a set time. (see settings popup messages)

Show details

Show details will open a window with messages that will inform you why the Hysopt model generation is unsuccessful.

In this window you can navigate through all the messages with < > buttons and navigate to the corresponding components in Hysopt BIM Syncer and Revit. You can proceed with an unsuccessful generated model with the link & map button. The Link & map button will link and map the generated Hysopt model with your Revit model.

Warnings

HVAC related BIM elements were not processed during the generation

Unprocessed mixing/dividing point in the system. Maybe you need to mark some components as endunit on these branches

  • We found a branch with an unknown location," this might indicate that the classification type of the pipe segments is not consistent in our BIM model

This point in the system has {number} pair of branches, this is not supported yet by the generator

Errors

No end units found → there are no end units in your Revit model. Mark components as end-unit with adding assistance parameters.

Successful Hysopt model generation

A successful Hysopt model generation is indicated with a green popup message. The popup message has two buttons show details and link & map. You can close the popup message by clicking on it or it will automatically close after a set time. (see settings popup messages).

Show details

Show details will open a window with messages that will inform you about the successful Hysopt model generation.

In this window you can navigate through all the messages with < > buttons and navigate to the corresponding components in Hysopt BIM Syncer and Revit. You can proceed with a successful generated model with the link & map button. The Link & map button will link and map the generated Hysopt model with your Revit model.

Info

all HVAC related BIM elements were processed during the generation

Generated model contains parallel branches, this is not fully supported yet in Hysopt
