Your newly created model is opened after following the Creating your first project page. The opened model contains a lot of different buttons and drop-down menus. We will explain all these on this page.
1. The optimiser tab buttons
These buttons will bring you to the four different tabs the optimiser contains.
Button logo | Name | Explanation | More information |
---|---|---|---|
Designer | This tab lets you work on the models | https://hysopt.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HRM/pages/3089530882/Drawing+your+first+model | |
Inspiration library | This tab contains different pre-made and working models that you can insert into your model. This way you don’t have to start drawing your models from scratch. | https://hysopt.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HRM/pages/3089368928/Inspiration+Library+-+Wizard | |
Sensitivity analysis | Sensitivity analysis is used to thoroughly examine the correct dimensions of the system by simultaneously simulating different models, each having a minor difference from the reference. | https://hysopt.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HRM/pages/3089206234/Sensitivity+Analysis | |
Pareto | Pareto analysis is used to analyse different concepts or models with each other. The analysation is done by comparing the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) of every model. |
2. Log out button
This button lets you log out of the Hysopt optimiser application.
3. Layers and libraries
These buttons contain all the different libraries you need to make a working model.

4. Tools
Button logo | Library | Name | Explanation |
---|---|---|---|
Select | This is used to select one or multiple items on the drawing canvas. | ||
Two pipe | This is used to draw two pipes (supply and return). This is the kind of pipe that you as a user will mostly use. | ||
Header | This is used to draw a header. This pipe is used in places where one pipe arrives and multiple pipes leave. | ||
Reverse return | The reverse return pipe is used so that the length of the circuit through the supply and return piping to each end unit is essentially the same. Therefore, balancing is almost unnecessary. | ||
Changeover | This pipe can be used in a system where both heating and cooling connections are made through the same pipe. | ||
Three pipe | This piping offers a significant reduction in installation costs and pipework compared with traditional four-pipe systems. Three-pipe systems can provide full heating and/or cooling to any room at any time. | ||
Canvas Link | This is used to draw links between canvasses. This is needed as Hysopt is a 2D -modelling software. | ||
Draw zone | This is used to draw zones which you can assign to the Base circuit ‘Radiator/Convector’. A zone is the equivalent of the room where the radiator/convector is located. | ||
Assign to zone | Can be used to assign a radiator to a zone. | ||
Unassign from zone | This button can be used to unassign a radiator from a zone. | ||
Draw | Lets you draw control lines that are used to connect control base circuits or with base circuits. | ||
Assign to the electric meter box* | This button can be used to assign an electric consumer to an electric meter box. | ||
Unassign from the electric meter box* | This button can be used to unassign an electric consumer from an electric meter box. | ||
Assign to fuel meter box* | This button can be used to assign a fuel consumer to a fuel meter box. | ||
Unassign from the fuel meter box* | This button can be used to unassign a fuel consumer from a fuel meter box. | ||
Insert label | Can be used to create text labels where you can write your comments etc. in. | ||
Insert dynamic label | Can be used to create dynamic labels by clicking base circuits while this button is active. |
* More info about the meter boxes is found on the page https://hysopt.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HRM/pages/3089368564/Meter+boxes
5. Basic Circuit Library
This contains all the different base circuits you might need to draw a model. Base circuits are the building blocks of your model in which you can fill in specific properties of that base circuit. Base circuits can be divided into three major classes, namely production units, end units and in-between units. The illustration below shows a heating circuit on which these classes are indicated.
The difference between those classes is explained in the table below.
Name | Explanation |
---|---|
Production units | These BCs provide power to the circuit and has 1 node were you connect the pipes to. |
In-between units | These BC’s makes it possible to add different hydraulic structures which require different calculations to your model. These blocks have 2 nodes where you connect those pipes to. |
End units | These BCs consume the power of the circuit and has 1 node to connect pipes to. |
In the table below you find all the BCs of the illustration with the classes and the library where to find them to explain the structure of the basic library. All of the BCs come from the heating library but don’t worry, the cooling library has the same structure.
BC | Location |

6. File buttons
Button logo | Name | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Open model explorer | The model explorer is used to open/create new models/folders, import models with tokens and move folders and models. | |
Save model | This is used to save your model. | |
Copy model | This opens a pop-up screen where you can give your current model another name and another location. This is the same as a ‘save as' function. | |
Insert model | This can be used to insert another model in your currently opened model. | |
Export as… | Exports the model as different file types. The possible file types are: JSON, PDF & DXF. More inforamtion about the export possibilities is found on the https://hysopt.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HRM/pages/3089367755/Exports page. |
7. Model name
This is the name you gave your model during model creation.
8. Compute actions
Button logo | Name | Explanation | More information |
---|---|---|---|
System check | 'System check' will check the model for hydraulic mistakes and inconsistencies but this will not check the capacitites. | https://hysopt.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HRM/pages/3089203395/Model+validation | |
Compute design flows | This action calculates the design flows based on the filled in parameters. | https://hysopt.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HRM/pages/3089367213/Compute+design+flows | |

11. Perspectives
To prevent the software from becoming too confusing, some buttons or parameters of base circuits are hidden behind layers. Perspectives are used to reveal these hidden layers.
Perspective logo | Name | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Simulation | Lets you change user simulation-specific parameters on base circuits. This layer is used to parameterise the dynamic behaviour of the installation. | |
Partial load analysis | Lets you analyse the model in partial load. This layer is mostly used to see valve authorities in partial load. | |
Sensitivity Analysis | Lets you select certain base circuit settings that you want to change in the sensitivity analysis. |
12. Drawing canvas
This is the space where you can draw your model. You can draw models by dragging and dropping base circuits on the canvas and connecting these by pipes and control lines.
