Ambient exchange systems are components used to transfer thermal energy to the ambient air. The most common way to do so are dry coolers. Ambient exchange units can be used in different ways, for instance, they can directly supply cooling to a building which is commonly called free cooling. They can also be used to extract heating and indirectly heat up a building (by means of a heat pump). They are also often used in combination with geothermal energy storage to maintain a certain energy balance of the soil.
